Goodwood Festival of Speed 11th. July 2008 A good friend Ross Porter offered some Tickets late Thursday night for Friday opening day for the Festival of Speed @ Goodwood, West Sussex. I have never been there after some quick research thought it be best t0 gt there as early as my tired eyes in the morning would allow me, arriving around 9ish. It was Busy, parking was quick though, and close to the road, and a short walk, big queue just for a tractor ride in a trailer to the main show gates 1/2 mile up the road :(. Not a lot to say about the event really, it is big, just about everything possible is there from F1 cars to 100 year old bikes, you can walk around the paddocks to see the work being carried out on the card before they race up the hill. Rallying stages in the forest, every big car makers stand possible, the list is endless to what you can do and watch, I can understand why people get 2 or 3 day tickets and camp there the weekend. The Bad news for me, it is a Photographers nitemare, I have never seen so many people carrying just about every possible of camera combination possible all wanting to do the same as me, All I went for was from the photog side of things, seems so does everyone else :( The straw bales, and distance from the track made it hard got shots up the hill, no bends you could get to, the Rallying was not a lot better, and I have never done that type before, but was fun. Would I go again, not sure, cannot beat it for a day out though, but it is very hard to go just to shoot for images, though the later the day went on the better it become. Special mention to the kind lady Goodwood Curtosy Car driver that chauffered me back to my car, many thanks, legs had enough by then, leaving at nearly 8PM. © Brett Butler |
