Bentley Wldfowl Centre, Halland, Trip 26-09-2008
Had a free day, as it was a warm sunny day decided to take a trip to the Bentley Wildfowl Centre, in Halland, Ironic, it is no more than 10 minute drive from mine. I arrived mid morning and was surprised at to how good it was to park close by and walk in, not a bad price of £5-20 with a discount voucher I downloaded off the net. I made my way to the wildfowl centre first, shooting a few flowers, bushes, statues, and trees on the way. I got to say I was somewhat disappointed from a photography point of view when I entered the Wildfowl area, all the bird areas were fenced off with a waist high fence, you had to generally stick to the path, so all shots were taken at least waist high, and was always shooting down towards the birds. Another poor factor being nearly the whole area of the wildfowl area was under tree cover, hence poor lighting in areas and a large difference between highlights and shadows, a photogs worse nightmare. I pretty well shot everything with flash to try and balance the light and shadows, certainly not my strongest point in photography. I spent some time with in the Wildfowl area though it is a good walk for Bird Lovers, and People who are quite happy to amble through, quite relaxing really, with just a few people around. I came out of the wildfowl area and walked through the gardens, being this time of year plants were wilting and dieing, but I can imagine that spring and summer the gardens would be bright and colorful. I Walked through the Bentley House, and onto the Car Museum, I was once again rather disappointed, I knew there was a good collection of some old and rare cars in the museum, but they were roped off with no access around them, they were so tightly parked together, rather like sardines in tins, I could only shoot from the front. One more major problem, the lighting in there was quite poor as well, the roof had skylights, and what with the florescent lighting it was hard work, to try and balance the light, and not have highlight spots everywhere. One the whole I had a good day though, and would certainly go again, just it would be more in the spring and early summer. √© Brett Butler 2008 |
